The scenic route to Marions Lookout is via Lake Lilla and Wombat Pool. The most direct route is past the boat shed and straight up the steep side. Please note, this is a very steep walk. Marion’s Lookout is perched on the edge of a high glacier-carved plateau and offers bushwalkers Cradle Mountain spectacular views over mountain peaks and mirrored lakes. The walk is popular with holidaymakers to Cradle Mountain, especially in summer when the alpine wildflowers are in full bloom. The Overland Track walk takes approximately six days and although the track is well-maintained and clearly marked, for some the journey may not be an easy one. Some people may find the walk quite steep in sections and six days of continuous walking can be physically demanding. Please note that Marions Lookout is over 1200m and the weather at Cradle Mountain varies quickly. Walkers must always be prepared with warm clothes and wet weather gear, noting that snow may fall at any time of year.

Marions Lookout is a popular short bushwalk Cradle Mountain begins at the Dove Lake car park and is the beginning of the Overland Track. It is a walk that can be undertaken by anyone with reasonable fitness levels. There are three different options you can take to get to Marions Lookout. One is via the Overland Track past Crater Lake, another via from Dove Lake past Wombat Pool or the third is a steep direct ascent from the Dove Lake Circuit. The most popular walk is Crater Lake and Wombat Pool and that can be walked in either direction. A metal chain is provided for walkers to help with the steepest part of the climb.
